1. What is Google Maps?
If you don't already know it, before explaining how to use Google Maps we will talk about what it is.
It is a map platform that is available for any of the best internet browsers and for all smartphones. It has several very interesting features, allowing you to find addresses, check routes, distances and travel time between different points and even being able to use the Street View to see streets.
Whoever has it on the mobile device (which is almost everyone) can use it as a free GPS, which works extremely similar to Waze, but possibly better.
In addition, it allows you to view satellite images in addition to the most basic maps. Through them, you will see reliefs, cities and more.
2. How to use Google Maps?
So that you can start using this excellent tool, you must first decide where you will use it: on your computer or on your smartphone. In the first case, follow the link to the official website.
However, if like most people prefer to use it on their mobile phone, it will be necessary to download the free app through the Play Store for Android or the App Store for iPhone.
With all of this ready, we will teach you how to use it for the most varied functions, including the Street View, routes and distance measurement.
Search for places or addresses
Right when opening the app for the first time, it will be necessary to allow the app to find your location. With that, you will come across a screen showing where you are (indicated by a blue dot).
At the top of that screen, you’ll see a bar that says “Search Here”. Enter whatever you want to find, be it a hardware store, a bakery, a specific address or whatever you want. The app will show you the best results.
To refine, you can add certain search terms, for example "Close to me", “In x city”. In this case, it would be "Hardware near me" or “Hardware in São Paulo”.
Use Street View
To “walk” through the streets of almost any Brazilian city (or the world), using the Street View Google Maps is the best option.
To do this, you must first enter the address you want to view for the map to find it. Then, in the upper right corner, you will see a menu with several options, among them the Street View. Click on it to activate it.

Measure distance

Download offline maps
Another very good thing you can do with this app is to download maps for offline use, when you don't have access to the internet. That is, if you travel abroad or if your data plan runs out, no problem, you can still locate yourself!
In order to do this, it is necessary to first access the menu on the left side of the app and click on “Offline maps”. Now, you can choose the map you want to download by clicking “Select your map ”.
You can drag and zoom to decide exactly which region you want to download. The app will also show you how much storage space the map will take.
View directions
