Netflix improves parental control by PIN: how to do it?
For those looking for apps to watch movies and series, it's hard to find anything more complete than Netflix. Besides having the famous and popular Netflix series, it is a great platform to watch anime, fantasy movies and even watch series from other producers. Only you can understand if you want to have parental control by PIN, an option just added to the streaming service.
After all, not everyone wants their children to see inappropriate or even more violent content, such as war movies or spy movies. To help you with this, we’ll show you how to use the age group option and PIN parental control. Check out the full tutorial below!
Establish age range
The first thing we are going to teach you is to establish an age group on a Netflix profile. After all, you may prefer to only limit the type of content that your children have access to on the platform instead of putting a PIN right away.
This feature is very useful for this and can be easily modified by the account holder. Just follow these steps:
Step 1: To get started, open Netflix, log in if necessary and click on your profile icon to reveal some options. Among them, you must select the option "Account".
Step 2: on the general account page, you will find the “Profile and Parental Control” tab when you go down a bit. In this section, click on the arrow of the profile that wants to establish an age group.
Step 3: among the various options available, click on “Swap” in the “Viewing restrictions” tab. This is just a more beautiful way of referring to the age restrictions we want.
Step 4: Next, you’ll need to enter your Netflix account password. That's why your kids shouldn't be able to change these settings if they don't have a password.
Either way, you’ll be able to choose exactly the age range of content your kids can watch. Of course, this option is entirely up to you, but just choose between: free, 10 years, 12 years, 14 years, 16 years or 18 years.
Step 5: You can also check a direct option to only display children's content for your children. If you only want to restrict certain titles, just write the name of the series or movie in the blank field.
With all the settings decided, click "Save" and you can let your children enjoy Netflix at will. Unless, of course, you want to be more restricted, which brings us to the second part of the tutorial.
PIN parental control
Well, with all the age group resolved, there is another issue that you should remember. If your child has access to Netflix, can't he just switch profiles and see something on him?
The answer is yes, without a doubt. This is one of the reasons why Netflix has established a type of Parental Control by PIN for profiles, so you need to enter that PIN to enter blocked profiles.
You can do this in all profiles except your child's, ensuring that he doesn't access another family member's account and watches what he shouldn't. You can also block all profiles so that it only sees Netflix when you allow it.
In any case, the process is the same for one or all profiles. Just follow these steps:
Step 1: go to the account menu and click on the arrow of the profile you want to block in the “Profile block.
As we mentioned, it is preferable that it is a profile that does not want your child to have access and not one that is already in the established age range.
Step 2: Next, you’ll have to enter the normal password for this Netflix account. Once this is done, check the box for the option “Request a PIN to access the profile”.
Step 3: Right after doing this, you will be asked to create a four digit PIN. Place your preference and click "Save" to finish the process.
Step 4: ready! Now when someone tries to access the blocked profile, they will see the image below:
This way, you will only be able to access it if you enter the correct PIN. A good solution for your children not to circumvent the age group scheme, isn't it ?!
